Nea Roda is thought to be the biggest refugee settlement in Northern Halkidiki. You can find it in the narrowest area of the Athos Peninsula. It is washed by the sea from both sides.
Nowadays, this settlement is a tourist resort area, which offers: modern hotels, fully-furnished apartments, and rooms for rent, bars, cafes, taverns, restaurants, and camping.
Nea Roda is accessible by taxi from the neighboring settlement of Ierissos, which nestles in a 6-kilometer distance, and the ancient town of Ouranoupoli. If you wish to avoid difficulties related to a search of a free taxi at the last moment, you should plan a trip and take care of transportation in advance.
Many people describe Nea Roda as the largest settlement established by the refugees who came from Northern Halkidiki after the catastrophe in Asia Minor. At present, it is a quiet location with picturesque landscapes, blooming gardens, crystal pure waters, and clear golden sands.
The climate of Nea Roda is characterized by hot summers and mild winters. This location provides favorable conditions to experience water sports. In summer, the water temperature exceeds 25°C. The guests of Nea Roda can enjoy a hot and dry climate since the early winter until the late autumn.

The church of the Blessed Virgin Mary & Saint Nikolas is a centrally-located landmark in the settlement. It is a place, where you can see a miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary. This treasure was brought here by the refugees from the island of Aloni, found in the Marmara Sea. There is also a chapel, overlooking the harbor with its numerous fishing boats, excursion, and sailing crafts, which depart regularly to Mount Athos. In close vicinity to the settlement, you can see another popular destination – the ancient city of Ouranoupoli.
Every year, on August 22 and 23, the guests of Nea Roda have a wonderful opportunity to join a great celebration devoted to the Day of the Virgin Mary. The last Monday of July is another festive occasion called the Sardine Festival.
